Maybe ask a stupid question.

I tried to configure a network connection on my gateway, in the external network we have a DNS server and a gateway on different machines (let the gateway be 20.10.0.2, DNS 20.10.1.3, something like this).

When I set everything up as it is, nothing works, when I prescribe how the DNS gateway server works.

This is normal? Should it work like that? What could this mean?

I lift the gateway on the Endian Firewall Comunity bases. Does not work = an error appears about the impossibility of finding ya.ru.

  • Can I have more details? From your example, the first thought, and what is your network (network / mask)? - Dex
  • Are you talking about internal or external? I wrote everything about the external one, what I know, the internal one doesn’t affect the settings here. The mask of the external 255.255.255.248 seems to be (now it is not at hand, I can not exactly remember). - Sergey
  • Hmm ... with such a mask, your external address should be - 20.10.0.1-6 (then you should work with the gateway), if your address is 20.10.1.1-6 (then you can not contact the gateway 20.10.0.2). - Dex
  • Yes, sorry forgot about howling the address) is just the second option. I think there should be a mask 255.255.252.248 (if not mistaken)? - Sergey
  • Wrong :) 255.255.252.0. But for your addresses (I don’t know what you still have there), this is enough 255.255.254.0 - Dex

Your external address should be 20.10.0.1-6 (then you should work with the gateway), if your address is 20.10.1.1-6 (then you can’t contact the gateway 20.10.0.2).

255.255.252.0 (20.10.0.1 - 20.10.3.254) But for your addresses (I don't know what else you have there), this is enough 255.255.254.0 (20.10.0.1 - 20.10.1.254)

For the mask 255.255.254.0 you can use 52 and 53, for the 255.255.252.0 - 52, 53, 54 and 55.
