Alas, I did not find XNA for VS Desktop 2012 Express.

Found a lot of hacks, but they do not inspire confidence.

Has anyone in the know MS scored on XNA? Or will this framework still evolve?

Perhaps this is just a rumor, but there is information that MS will not make XNA for Desktop and will leave it only for mobile phones and XBOX.

If not, what are the alternatives? As far as I understand there are some means to use DirectX in C #? Tell me what?

  • If you are interested in a bunch of DirectX10 (11, 9) and WPF, then I have my own time. It works quickly and without jambs, I can share. semenvx27@yadex.ru. (Renders a device to texture and binds it to a WPF image without copying it.) - semenvx27

In vs12 xna is, but so far only for windows phone. Most likely, they will do it later for desktops.

I also advise you to look at SharpDX

  • Thank you, interesting information. I would like to still appear XNA for the desktop. Sharp, too, something interesting must be seen) - Sergey

XNA adds a giant overhead compared to native DirectX. If you want to write in C #, then the right choice is SharpDX.

A recent article on Habré has shed light on the question: An introduction to developing games for Windows 8 using XNA and MonoGame .

More specifically: there is open source development - MonoGame (analogous to XNA). Programming on MonoGame allows almost not to change the code for XNA. So it can be considered a complete alternative.

The responses also voiced SharpDX, but there are others:

    • EaselJS
    • ImpactJS
    • Construct2
    • Delta engine
    • Unigine
    • Ogre engine
