The question may not be relevant to this area of the forum. But maybe, who knows - I searched the Internet - it makes no sense. The bottom line is this: in our city there is a shop (second-hand bookseller); He belongs to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. They have a database and they want to make a site on its base. Would you like to know if the ministry of culture is generally a generous unit or rather a mean one? And further. How can I connect a database and a site with a product catalog? In the sense of adding goods to the database and that it immediately displayed on the site? To do this, do not need to store the entire database on a hosting? (And she hoo what). Or is it possible that the site itself penetrates their database stored on their computer, scoops up information and displays it? I just don’t know if this is possible ... Thanks in advance for the answers.

"They have a database" - 1C? If yes, then 1C supports uploading data to MySQL. In 7.7 this did ...
- I'm afraid not 1C. They themselves do not know which base. Two grannies sit - and the documentation - in the Ministry of Culture, and to get it, you need to make a bunch of requests. Just theoretically possible? And how much approximately such development will cost? - new_russian_man
- Perhaps of course. Prices will depend on your requests and the "greed" of local developers :) - Avalon
- Well, how about an eye? - new_russian_man
- 1) It is better that the computer with the database itself downloads the database / updates to the site, for example, in the form of FTP files. 2) It is required to implement import from files into the site database at specific intervals 3) Create a site (free CMS? Or paid?) With design. 4) More TK will have to write, and this is also a significant investment of time. At prices in my opinion 50k-100k rubles. Maybe more. - korwru

I would advise you to keep unloading and storing the database on the hosting and make the update script daily, say, forced, if suddenly something should be changed promptly during the day.
With 1c you can directly work without unloading, there MsSQL. Implemented such a project. The required "view" was made in the database, and a request was already sent to it from the site.
