About a year ago I learned from a person working with the genome about the existence of such an extremely convenient for mathematical and statistical computing language as R. There was an idea to try to apply it for purely practical purposes, for example, in game development, since it is not only suitable for calculations, but also for convenient output of the processed information.
However, the language was created by scientists and for scientists, which was somewhat reflected in its syntax and principles of work. In short, the attempt to solve with it the first task, which differs in complexity from "Hello, World!", Ended with a frank inability to get into the documentation. If there are people on Heshkod who are familiar with this language, I ask you for advice: Are there any Russian-language books and manuals on R (I’ve already looked at Wikibooks, but there are only the basics, and that is fragmentary), and what is worth reading to understand what the tricky arguments of the functions there mean (The current problem, for example, arose with a random number generator, in a given range)?
In winter, there will be lectures on R at Cursar, but in order to take out at least one of them, especially in English, in any case, you need to understand at least terminology.
