When you click on the list item, they use Action Mode , which by the way is already in the support library. It accordingly has a number of callbacks that can be handled in any way: show the contextual action bar, count the number of pressed elements, substitute another view, etc. For the list, call setChoiceMode (ListView.CHOICE_MODE_MULTIPLE).
