Sections that are not supposed to access from other operating systems, I usually format in ext4. Does it make sense for a video-only section, as for large files, to use a more specialized file system?

    1 answer 1

There is a sense in the case when

    1. the total storage size is large (more than terabytes),
    2. there is access specifics (for example, it is rarely read, often spelled or vice versa),
    3. there is a file specificity (all files are large, of the order of gigabytes),
    4. need special requirements for reliability,
    5. need extensibility on various carriers,
    6. etc.

Then it is quite possible, using a specially sharpened system (XFS, ZFS, PVFS), to get any advantages.

If the storage space is small and the files are rarely used, it is unlikely that changing the file system will give a significant gain.
