Good day, downloaded, installed linux mint (2010 release) on the hp620 laptop. I’m all satisfied, only there is no access to the network: with PPOP connection, userpoint requires, wifi does not connect (does not see and the indicator on the keyboard does not turn on).

Is it possible to suggest a solution given my lack of experience in linux?

Perhaps in the standard package there are no necessary drivers for the WiFi module of the laptop. Connect to the wired network and try to upgrade

    sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get upgrade

    Next, run the command

     nm-tool

and see if the string "State: connected" is there. If there is, check the list of networks to connect to and select the one you are interested in. If not, run the command

     sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic

There is a chance that will help.

    • As already written, when trying to wired connection (PPOP) asks USERPOINT. P.S. and the provider does not know what it is. - Seversky

In general, in the mine (in the cat for sure) there is such a thing as installing Windows drivers for wireless devices. I have never used it (I get it right), but try it at least you. Located in the control center
