I installed Ubuntu (11.04) on a netbook, at first I just flew, a couple of months passed, now it is terribly slow and everything is getting worse every day, what can I do? In Windows there was a defragment, antiviruses, all sorts of clean registry and many utilities and ways to improve performance, maybe something like that is eating here? Somebody knows? Can disable any unnecessary services?

Thank you in advance.

  • Maybe the netbook is just dusty and hot? - bleyz100
  • No, my friend, I also thought so, I opened it, there was almost no dust there, and it doesn’t heat up much, I use it for only 7 months, and I took it new. - Tigran

Try to clean the system http://ubuntovod.ru/soft/optimizaciya-ubuntu.htmla even if the machine is weak, try instead of gnomes, sneakers, or whatever your tiling managers are, awesome is very good!

  • I tried to clean your link, sort of wrote, but no difference, but didn’t replace the dwarf, because he flew earlier, thanks for the answer, but I’d like to find out why I don’t change something - Tigran

Netbook Acer AspireOne - Intel Atom 1.60, 2Gb, 160Gb.40 Gb - Xp Home (included in delivery) + 60 Gb (NTFS) + Ubuntu 10.04.2 (20 Ext4 (/) + 36 Ext4 (/ home + swap section). First, install Xp, then Ubuntu 10.04.2 (with manual partitioning of partitions). Don't forget to “cut off” an NTFS partition without formatting and mount as windows. A year and a half without “brakes”.

When loading, ubunt is most likely loaded in graphics mode, press esc, the console mode will appear, see which services are loaded, which is possible but not necessary:

  1. Ubunt will check and correct the errors of the partitions including the Windows partition, is fixed by storing the system task "check disks", in the boot settings
  2. can search the network, launch different firewalls, check and download the update, the same in the download settings, disable these services
  3. find the qps utility (if there is no sudo apt-get, etc.) or similar, see which processes take up the RAM and kill them, then disable or disable them later (sudo, dpkg -e package name
  4. in any case, turn off automatic search and install updates

for a start, watch TOP or, better htop to begin with, it will be clearer there. clean / tmp and custom tempo. To test the operative just in case, I have a little bit of a bold operative on Mandriva, and everything started to indulge too, until I understood what was the matter. Is log rotation enabled? maybe in some folder there are a lot of files, you can write a script to go through the screw, calculate how many files in which folder - just the number for each folder. SMART on the screw check. From this or something will become clearer, or look for more options))) In general, the logs in these cases look more closely, it is also useful

True 11.04 brake 10.04. I agree. Put 11 ubuntu and mints, rolled back to 10-ku

Install Ubuntu Twiak-it is in the repositories, and it cleans the system better, removes the old kernels. In general, I have been friends with penguins for over a year, everything has been flying, although 11.04 is more delaying than 10.04.
