VIA Technologies, Inc. CN700 / P4M800 Pro / P4M800 CE / VN800 [S3 UniChrome Pro] for linux?

I put Ubuntu 11.10, it is buggy very much, it hangs ... I think that this is due to the lack of VGA firewood. The computer is old, but it can cope much better with work than I think without drivers.

VIA Technologies, Inc. CN700 / P4M800 Pro / P4M800 CE / VN800 [S3 UniChrome Pro] here is the model of my video card, re-search everything you can, nowhere. There are no activated firewood in the system parameters at all, just an empty window ... advise what can be set so that the system is less hung, since I can’t find the driver ... :(

As an option to put the system 10.04.3 LTS, why should you put a rather heavy version on an old iron, which also slows down on smart systems? There are also versions of Xubuntu, especially for weak computers. Look.

    • Thank. That is, it is unlikely that everything hangs on me because of the drivers? Most likely, the Ubunt version is just too heavy for my PC, right? - iHysterical 2:07 pm

In the settings to put the driver pripriyatarnye ...

    cm10401 driver download .

    • I have everything empty in the settings in the primary drivers. I need to install the cm10401 driver, then activate it in the settings. I understood correctly? - iHysterical pm

No, the version is not hard, just with the core of the system problem. I paid attention to this when Lynx first came out: when replacing the kernel with anything more than 2.6.33, keyboard input started to get buggy — the last characters entered were not displayed and the system regularly fell asleep — you had to constantly pull the mouse. There were still a lot of "miracles". From the last - on my 2.6.32.41 kernel, my "BT-whistle" disappeared, rolled back to 2.6.32.38 - everything worked again ... The modules for snd_serialmidi were gone ... As a conclusion, the kernel was cleaned "well ..." rover "10.04 works without any problems, but so far without a compiz. As an option, I tried Jolicloud (Joli OS) - this is also Gigteg 10.04, but with very good support for hardware. I had to mess around, though I had to do quite a bit, until I had a personal appearance, but there were no special problems. And yet - there is support for the CN700 / VN800 ... DRM-module for the kernel, glx-module for MESA and the "native" module for Ix ... Ubuntu 12.04 beta2 on the "rover" was installed normally - it "pulls" it with a whistle , but on the Samsung NP-N100 I could not install a flash drive - it seems that the screw is “lost” at the stage of copying the installation files ... My rover is the Partner W500 with 2GB of RAM and Intel 2200 ... Axis is Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-38.83) and Ubuntu 12.04 beta2 with all the new things. And the last thing - I usually "stand" FireFox - somewhere "FireFox is a memory eater". Perhaps this is also one of the causes of "heaviness." I put "Opera" and create / tmp, / var / log and / var / tmp in RAM. And I still "put out" half of the autoload. More than half ... :-)
