Hello!

There is a FUJITSU AMILO Li3710 laptop with a Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family video controller and Ubuntu 10.04 OS on board. I would like to know the opinion of experts or experienced users about this combination.

How does the OS use chipset resources? The question boils down to the issue of periodic monitor flicker. Namely: flickering in the form of thin color bars. Turned off all the effects, but to no avail: the problem does not disappear. The machine has a second Windows 7 Ultimate OS, there is no problem there, which means the iron damage option disappears (especially since my laptop is not old - just a year with a vengeance).

I would like to completely switch to a free Ubuntu, but I'm afraid to ruin the car. How to be?

If 7 didn’t ruin your vehicle, then 10.04 cannot definitely ruin it, follow the advice given above. In general, the system itself had to offer to install a proprietary driver.

try to execute in the terminal:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa: ubuntu-x-swat / x-updates

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel

The full format will save you from unnecessary betrayal, install one OS and use yourself to your health. Another question in your concern, regarding the lanes, maybe you have not installed proprietary drivers for the video card. Go to “System” - “Administration” - “Device Drivers” My advice is to install a standard video driver, if one is available in the list. The problem may still be whether the driver for your video card is added to the database or not. Driver nvidia for linuxImho only one OS for your laptop, and only crunchbang , I advise you!

Windows users brag about who the computer is cooler, and Linux users who are worse :) (c)
