Ubunt has a driver manager. He will download and install the proven driver on your system. If you still want to hands it:

  1. load the driver from the Nvidia website
  2. stop the x server - /etc/init.d/ligthxdm stop
  3. run the driver sh /home/имя учётки/Nvidia.run
  4. restart and rejoice :)

    You just need the driver version 173.14.35 and everything will be ok. I had the same problem.
