Greetings to all! I have a Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client at work, the problem is that one of our employees has stopped working internal mail (the others work). At first, the mailer stopped logging into the mailbox, and when I tried to re-register the user profile, the program crashes the message: "PASS command failed. Mail server" server name "answered: Login failed.". The first thing that came to mind: the wrong password (but since it used to work, this option is excluded). We have a mail server (it’s also a proxy server) using FreeBSD 6.4 OS. I tried to use the portable version of the mailer program for registering the mailbox, I also tried to register it from another computer. Perhaps I have done something wrong with the netams.conf file - I do not exclude this, as an option, since its rules were before the mail client stopped working. I was advised to look at the folder where the mail comes in, what access rights are set, but they are all the same there. Looked like this:

sudo ls -ld /var/mail/exim/имя ящика/

After that, I get the message:

 drwxrwx--- 5 mailnull mail 512 Aug 27 09:58 /var/mail/exim/имя ящика/

Already I do not know which way to look to solve the problem. Waiting for good advice. Thank you in advance.

So, changing the password does not solve the problem? - ArcherGodson
  • No, the password that is already saved in the program is correct. - DelphiM0ZG
  • if the same client is set up on another account by changing only the login and password, what happens? - ArcherGodson
  • To another account (the entrance to which works 100%) is configured normally. - DelphiM0ZG

And if all the same password change? What else is special about this box? - ArcherGodson

Most likely, the fact is that Thunderbird itself limits the length of the password.

I have a similar story. I love the lengthyiiiiiiiiinnye passwords (created with the help of the password manager). When I fell in love with them, I noticed that Thunderbird would accept mail, but could not send it, and endlessly required to enter a password.

And through the web interface, I normally enter.

On one mail service - where I wrote to the support - they assured me that they do not put restrictions on the MAXIMUM number of characters in the password. And that, most likely, is the problem in Thunderbird.

It seems, therefore, that Thunderbird himself limits the length of the password, cuts off part of it.

Linux Mint 17, 64 bit. Thunderbird 31.5.0. Disabling add-ons does not affect.

Question: What is the maximum password length in Thunderbird?
