I am now studying Qt myself. Better start without Qt Designer. Just manually create simple GUI-applications, and then with the help of visual editors. If you go to Google, go to the video section and type Qt there. There will be a lot of videos on creating applications on Qt - just with the help of an editor. You can look there.
