Hello! I have such a problem: when using Android Studio, the computer is very slow. For example, it happens that when typing, the keys are already pressed, and appear on the screen in a few seconds, the assembly of projects takes from 2 to 5 minutes. Configuration of Asus k50in laptop (4GB RAM, dual-core t4400 2.20GHz, W7).

Are there any ways to solve this problem, but I don’t want to buy a new computer?

  • You can send a studio in power saving mode. It disables auto substitution, syntax analysis, and various other features. - Nick Volynkin

I myself sit on the same laptop, a similar situation with brakes.
In the settings gradle (user / .gradle / gradle.properties) wrote the following

org.gradle.daemon=true org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 org.gradle.parallel=true org.gradle.configureondemand=true

a little, but it helped. Plus in the settings of the studio / idea disable code complete.
In general, I've been thinking about changing iron for a long time (you can still buy ssd, I'm not sure just that there will be a significant increase in speed).
edit : yes, I also added a folder with projects to the antivirus exception.

ssd gives a good boost for the studio as well. The main thing is that the studio and the java it uses are on ssd. - KoVadim
  • There will be no special "(you can still buy ssd, I'm not sure just that there will be a significant increase in speed).". Of course, the chrome will be like it always torments hard with its calls (and other browsers do not). And AndroidStudio has a problem of voracity and not a problem with a hard one. - Denis Kotlyarov

Try to put IDEA.
I did not put the studio, but I know that it is based on IDEA, and read that the brakes are due to Gradle. Compared to Eclipse, IDEA just flies.

Regarding SSD - you can try to estimate the increase in the movement of the studio and JAVA machines on the SSD without buying an SSD using RAMDisk (Disk in RAM). One of the programs that allows this is ImDisk.

  • idea also slows down not weakly. - gcoder
  • I generally have 1.5 GB of operatives on the laptop. And I don’t have Eclipse at all and the operatives eat 2 times less than Android Studio and IDEA - Ziens

Disable the version control system if you are not actively using it. There was the same problem with Android Studio - it was so impossible to work that I had to abandon it on my home computer. After disabling the VCS plug-ins, Studio began to work at the IDEA level.

This is 100% of the operating memory. I stuck 16gb into my comp and everything worked great. Memory is eating this Studio - that is the problem. At least 8gb put ..

    • I have 3GB DDR2 800 MHz, AS quite tolerably works with auto substitution, browser, reader and small programs. Even antivirus is included! - user189127
    • I already moved to Linux. Prior to this, on Windows with 4GB RAM everything slowed down. As soon as I set 16GB, everything began to work fine. Android Studio is eating RAM if you run Gradle. If you immediately test on a connected live device, it may be faster, I have not tried. - Igor Osipov
    • I do not know ... During compilation, of course, I slow down, but in general everything is fine. Much depends on the hard disk. - user189127
