Hello, dear programmers!

I have this question: can I somehow find out what the user was looking for recently in search engines (Google, Yandex, etc.) to display actual advertising on his site?

    1 answer 1

    Yes you can:

    ... window.getSurfHistory(); ...

    Well, to be honest, at first glance the question may seem ridiculous, because if it were possible, then what would be the point of ensuring the user privacy and anonymity on the network? It would not be necessary to collect information about him from various input forms, but it would be enough just to look at his search history and find out a lot of interesting and necessary information about him. So no, it’s not so easy to take and find out about users what is usually in his personal zone.

    But you can do it difficult, as it, for example, makes the mechanism of multiple advertising banners from one company, installed on different sites on the network. Banners retain the full right to send any information to the server (including cookies of a specific site). Thus, if, for example, a banner of a certain advertising company is on sites A, B and C, and the user has made, for example, such a surfing scheme: A-> C-> B-> A, then this user will lose his anonymity and give of that same company knowing exactly that he was on site A, then moved to site C, from there to B, and then returned to A.

    True, here the difficulty lies in forcing the site owner to insert the code of the advertising banner on your website.

    • @ 0xFFh, thanks for the reply! I just recently searched for some information in Yandex, then I went to the VKontakte site and saw the information I was looking for in an advertisement! - cas
    • @ cas-live is another mechanism provided by search engines specifically to advertising companies to display only the information that is of an advertising nature. For example, if you search for XXX content in search engines, you will most likely not see it in social networks. Although, if you look for products related to XXX, then it is likely that soon they will be "lit" in all social services where there is only an account. - AseN

      @ cas-live: On the practical side, use Adblock Plus. Turning off advertising, at the same time you will not get into the lists of preferences of banner networks. - VladD
    • @AseN want - laugh, want - no, but once there was such a case. Sitting at the PC close to the microphone, I talked with someone about the very, so to say, deplorable state of health of one of his relatives. After a couple of hours, Google offered me a funeral home ad. So it goes. And how can we not become paranoid ... - smellyshovel
