With SQL Express server installed, if you install a full-fledged SQL Developer server, do you need to delete or do something with Express?

Both instances can exist in parallel. Give him a different name and that’s it. The express will be, for example, MYSERVER\SQLEXPRESS (it by default usually refers to the instance as EXPRESS ), and the full-fledged one - MYSERVER . - Nofate

There are two options to choose from:

  1. Put Developer / Enterprise as a separate instance (nameless, or with any name to choose from). Then you can connect to the new instance as MYSERVER\INSTANCENAME (or just MYSERVER ); to Express - as before, via MYSERVER\SQLEXPRESS .

  2. Make Edition Upgrade. This is one of the installer options:

It will turn your Express into Developer / Enterprise. That's just the name of the instance will remain old - MYSERVER\SQLEXPRESS - which may cause some inconvenience.
