Good day to all!

I got a banner of this site in my mail. Decided to take advantage. Tell me who can. Installed SQL Server Management Studio Express. At startup, it asks for the server name, password and server type. The question is: can it even work on a local computer (without a network and server) and, if so, what can I say?

If you have a full SQL Server then try as a server name (local) , if SQL Server Express is (local)\SQLEXPRESS . Server type - "Database Engine Component". If you are working as a user with administrator rights in Windows, you can set up Windows authentication (you will not need to specify a username and password). When authenticating with SQL Server, the administrator name is sa . Password is the one you specified when installing / configuring the server.

"I think you know the password and server type ..." Sorry, maybe I didn’t quite ask a question. Yes, in fact, it is known that they are not known. I work at home on my only computer. When installed, he (SQL Serv. Manag.) Asked for the Name and the Company. But when you start it asks for the Server Name, Login Name and Password. What should he answer? - cactus

Apparently, you installed only SQL Server Management Studio, but did not install the server itself. Download, install. In the meantime, you simply have nothing to connect to) - Nofate
    • Nofate - thanks. I downloaded Express Edish 2005. It is embarrassing that there is no Wind7 in the list of operating systems for it (I have Wind7). Will he work with her? - cactus
    • Where is he going. Everything works under 7. - Nofate

I think you know the password and server type. And the server name try localhost or 127.0.0.1 . This, of course, provided that the server you are spinning on the machine.
