Server at hetzner with debian. Once again, I made the usual apt-get upgrade, issued this nonsense:

install grub

What to do, what section to choose so that the server does not die?

md1 and md2 hints at raid. But the raid is already collecting the core. Therefore, it is necessary to put on sda / sdb. If everything is set up correctly, it is better to bet on both (I did this on my laptop). But no need to bet on md1 / md2 (if this is a raid)

    • As a matter of fact, I did not realize with a fright that it was possible to write to the support. On a single server with Debian 6 was advised in / dev / md1. On the second server with Debian 7 they told to put in / dev / sda and / dev / sdb. Both there and there raid costs. Actually did just that. - Ramzes

If you’re unsure of your BIOS drive, it’s often a good idea to install GRUB to all of them.

    free translation (with addition):

If you do not know which disk is assigned as a boot disk in your bios , it would be a good idea to install grub in the mbr of all these disks.

from personal experience: this is a really good idea.

    • Most likely you are right, grub is not a fool. On one server he refused to put in / dev / md1, said that he could not do this. - Ramzes
