I have Ubuntu from under Windows, but now there is no need for Windows, with all the data that is now there must be left intact and safe (those that are on ubunt), the actual question is how best to proceed in this case?

Or is there only one way out - to demolish everything and set it "from a clean screw"?

Another thought was - if it is stupid to format the disk with Windows, will ubuntu start? And if so, will it function normally?

 • Ubuntu on a virtualka? - culebre
 • Happy you - "but now there is no need for Windows" - skegg
 • @ mikillskegg about happy is yes :)

@culebre - yes ... - Zowie
 • In the virtual ubuntu itself on a separate section? - chernomyrdin
 • Yes, ubuntu in a virtual machine was installed from Windows and yes - on different partitions - Zowie

There are options with transferring the home folder ... I tried for a long time (ubunt was also installed from under wubi) - it almost came out
The general plan is as follows:

 1. make a backup copy of everything you need (I assume it is all a virtual disk file)
 2. tear down Windows and Ubuntu and install a new Ubuntu
 3. Fill new ubuntu with system files

but it is a terrible confusion - if not so many settings - it's easier to do it again - I did it =)

 • Thank you, but it's too late, my computer started life with a clean screw ^^
In general, of course, ubuntu with virtualBox and the fact that now is the earth and the sky ...
this is what I advise those who have the opportunity to put a bubble as self-contained OS and not out of the box .. - Zowie

Nothing is easier. First, do stage4 of your nix * system, transfer it to some external medium (for example, a flash-drive), for example: http://gentoo-wiki.gentoo.ru/wiki/Stage4 ;

Then install grub on a windows machine (a bunch of google stuff);

Finally, deploy the nix * system from stage4, add an entry to your bootloader and use it. In this way, you save both the win * system and * nix.
