I have thin clients on Linux that work in terminal mode on Windows 2003. Microsoft assures me that I must purchase Core CAL for them to connect to the terminal server.

Naturally, the licenses for the terminals I bought in the required quantity. So + to everything else, they now demand that Windows Pro-Upgrade be bought, for terminal clients motivating it with the fact that, according to the EA contract, I have the right to license computers with only two positions specified in the standard contract of 2013. It states that one of the basic products includes:

  1. Windows ProDesktop
  2. Windows Upgrade + Core CAL

They require it because the thin client falls under the definition of “computer”, and therefore we have to license it according to this definition for the two types of basic products mentioned above:

  • Windows ProDesktop
  • Windows Upgrade + Core CAL

Connecting using the R-Desktop Linux program.

  • @tutankhamun Updated the question. - SaintPadre
  • Specify exactly what the question is - Kromster
  • I repeat: Why are they required to license workstations from you? In other words: Why are Windows being imposed on workstations? What is your contract? Software assurance? - tutankhamun
  • Well, according to EA, we have to license workstations running Windows - this is clear to me. But I don’t understand why we should do it for thin clients. Enterprise Agremeent agreement with SA - SaintPadre
  • @SaintPadre Well then you made your own choice. As far as I remember, under this contract you are obliged to license the entire fleet of computing equipment to Microsoft products, in one of the specified configurations - tutankhamun
