type in the newaliases command from the root user or via sudo, then the aliases.db file will appear

  • -bash: newaliases: command not found - Diefair
  • sudo newaliases. If does not work, then rearrange postfix again. - maint

the same error from the postfix program is present in the log:

alias database unavailable

and more:

error: open database /etc/aliases.db: No such file or directory

in the postfix documentation, it is recommended to execute (as root):

 # postalias /etc/aliases

or

 # newaliases

Both of these files ( postalias and newaliases ) should be bundled with the postfix program. if it is installed from the package of the same name from the official distribution repository, then the location of the files is as follows:

 $ apt-file list postfix | grep 'postalias\|newaliases' | grep bin postfix: /usr/bin/newaliases postfix: /usr/sbin/postalias
