There is a folder under root rights htdocs in the xampp directory, and xampp itself runs as root.

I tried to change the rights to the xampp panel, but it leads to the fact that the program simply stops working.

And I came to a conclusion not related to this decision but

How to make a symbolic link to htdocs, so that it appears on the desktop?

But if there is a solution how to run xampp not from root - tell me.

  • how to run xampp not as root - why? - aleksandr barakin
  • as if not annoying a lot - always write gksu first and then only panel xampp opens - changing rights doesn’t help - more precisely stops working - user33274
  • What does it have to do with root or non-root if the problem was in a symbolic link? - Pavel Mayorov

How to make a symbolic link to htdocs so that it appears on the desktop?

$ ln -s /путь/к/htdocs "$(xdg-user-dir DESKTOP)/"

Here, the xdg-user-dir DESKTOP is used to get the path to the directory that performs the desktop role of the user who executed this command. for details, see man xdg-user-dir .

quotation marks are needed to correctly handle cases where the directory name contains spaces ( рабочий стол ).

  • and for which I naked there minuses ?? - user33274
  • Most likely, for a rather muddled wording. - aleksandr barakin
  • I did not know exactly how to ask a question! but if a person (for example, you) understands something, he understands - I don’t need to explain a lot of things either, and if I don’t see a competent question, I don’t run a minus - in principle, I’ll go to Lightbulbs - user33274
