Why does the time() function in php count exactly from January 1, 1970?

1 answer
The official creation date for Unix is 1970. Therefore, no one file can be created before 01/01/1970.
A more complete description can be found in the Wired News article. She explains that Unix engineers chose this date arbitrarily because it was necessary to establish a single start date, and the beginning of 1970 seemed the most convenient.
