There were cases that a specific piece of hardware refused to work or worked incorrectly. Again, do not forget that a driver for a specific board can provide enhanced possibilities for its use, compared to a standard driver.
2) Yes, the set of drivers in win7 + is big and often enough, but it’s worth remembering that there are other operating systems: even at the moment, many people use xp, and we shouldn’t forget about the Linux family.
