Good day! At work, occasionally there is a need for small forms for data entry, in projects I usually use the access + dataset \ oledbcommand bundle, and yesterday I was told that the last century dataset :) I generally don’t pretend to be a programmer, I just wonder what is relevant in terms of storage now data in small projects, what you should pay attention to and where to dig?

Ask those who have told you that they consider HI-End in this area. It is possible that they will propose to replace access with SQLlite, which is, in essence, the same thing, or, for example, XML or something else. The range of options ranges from txt file to a local database. And all these options are as old as the world. If anything appears new, it is how to protect these files, but this is a slightly different topic. - Alexey
  • You can replace the ax with a chainsaw, the ax is the past millennium, only what will you do in the forest with a chainsaw without fuel, and does it weigh so much more? Choose the means based on the needs and possibilities, and not for fashion, modernity and a beautiful name. IMHO of course. - rdorn
  • I was advised to use Compact SQL + Entity. My question was more related to the issue of ease of implementation and the ability to scale my application. Anyway :) - Madushko

You can read about the Access alternative in this topic .NET application?

And if you are interested in what you can replace with Dataset, then you can look towards different ORMs , such as the Entity Framework or NHibernate , or MicroORM, as an example of Dapper
