I started learning ASP.NET, bought Adam Freeman's book on MVC5. After reading the third book, no understanding of what and how did not increase. The question is, maybe you should start learning with WebForms? Will this knowledge help in studying MVC? Or is it all so different that I just lose time?

Forms don't help you much in learning ASP.NET MVC, they are a thing of the past. It is better to focus on MVC and it’s normal that a lot is not clear. If you have never encountered these technologies, it will take a little more time than what you need to read a single book by Freeman. - koks_rs

WebForms and MVC are two completely different approaches to application development.

Experience developing under WebForms does not make it easier for you to learn MVC.

Moreover, the experience of developing for WebForms does not make it easier for you to study any of the modern platforms at all - because of a very specific model for representing pages as long-lived objects. Which, by the way, led to the rejection of this technology towards MVC.

Do not waste time on them.
