I downloaded the appropriate news plugin, but its standard output does not fit my layout, so I thought to override the output of the plugin. But I do not know how to do it and where. Please tell me in which direction to move, I thought that in the subject to create the functions.php file and redefine the output in it, but I can not understand what to insert.

If you redefine styles, simply use the developer tools to see which classes are used there and interrupt them in your style file. If the functionality is easier to find another plugin.
