I have a server, it has KVM. Worth in KVM Windows Server 2012R2, the drive is mounted as an lvm partition. It’s not a problem to make a whole disk backup, we do a snapshot and then remove the archive by any means. But how to make an incremental backup, I'll never know. Or is it still easier to make a backup of the host system from the Windows itself? But this option is not very much.

And in general, an incremental backup is not only interesting for the partition on which the Windows stands, but also for other distributions, the same Linux. Acronis is able to do it somehow. Although there seems to be the usual dd used.

What does ZFS have to do with it? If you need to backup lvm volume on which Windows is. - Sanches

Enjoy it But it is difficult. There is still lvm thin provisioning. But he is terribly anstable. There is a btrfs type to store qcow2 or raw on it. but he is not as fast as lvm. There are zfs but he eats memory and is not standard.

In general, it is a pain.

In the simplest case, you can do it at least through dd + xdelta3, but of course it is better to use the built-in Windows backup mechanism on the connected dedicated partition.

If there is a hard task to do exactly on the host system, then I would recommend to look in the direction of ZFS snapshots and transfer them over the network to the backup server using ZFS itself.
