Good afternoon, I'm new. I often have to make improvements on the site or any changes. And in order to protect myself, I constantly copy files that I edit to my computer.

Hosting is always different as the engines, you need some kind of universal solution.

I have a question, how to properly backup the site before you start working with the site in order to protect yourself?

preferably some kind of lightweight copy, without pictures. I used git a bit, but I don’t know yet whether it is possible to make such a backup through it.

I would be very grateful for the information, maybe some articles, links, manuals.

    Git or SVN is the most accurate version control tool. You not only save files, but at any time can roll back to what commit a you want. Use these tools. Today it is very much in demand. But this is only for the file system. For databases you have to manually create a backup and so db.sql stored on Git along with the rest of the files
