follow these steps in succession, at a certain stage, I am sure everything will be resolved

1) try to insert text instead of a variable as you did with the alt attribute, the picture or the path to it in the source of the letter should be displayed in any case

2) try to manually define the $ img_name variable before this section of the code, also use var_dump to check its contents, before and after for compliance
