We have an android application interacting with the server. We count on 15-20 thousand customers. We do something like a social network. Work in streams, interaction with database and other services. Which server is better to choose for these conditions? Characteristics and cost of the server, as well as if you can link.

Most likely you will have json data format, without EJB, SOAP, etc. Apache Tomcat container server will cover all your tasks. If you want a highload and hardcore solution, then Netty.
