When installing Microsoft SQL Server 2012, towards the end of the download, the following message appears:

The database engine launch handle was not found.

Because of this, the server itself does not start, it is impossible to work. How to solve it?

PS The same appears when installing sql servel 2014.
PPS Is it possible to read the mdf database on the local computer without connecting to the server?

As a rule, it indicates the incompatibility of SQL Server and the operating system.

Check with the requirements if you can install SQL Server on your OS.

Regarding the second question - the mdf file is not a base - it is one of the base files - at least another ldf file is required, it is also possible to have ndf files and Filesteam catalogs.

And without a deployed SQL Server, you will not be able to open the database file.

    • Thanks for the answer. I have Windows 7, it seems to be supported, especially on another computer with a seven set normally. - Ascold
    • Windows 7 - This is not enough information :) You need complete information about the version of SQL Server, and about the version of Windows. So, SQL Server Standard 2012 is placed only on Ultimate, Enterprise and Professional, but Developer and Express are also installed on Home Pemium and Home Basic. In this case, the presence of SP1. - minamoto
    • I apologize for the inaccuracy, but windows I have a Professional version with Service Pack 1. Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Express Server. There is no solution to this problem anywhere. Very sad. - Ascold
