In my previous question, I was interested in how to remove the gap between the toolbar and LinearLayout. Good people suggested that you need to install App: elevation = "0dp" in AppBArLayout, and the problem was solved. But the trouble does not come alone, and now, after DrawerLayout has descended under the Toolbar - we have a new gap, the size is much more than the shadow of anything:

And this, notice, the Android Studio template with a curtain, which has not yet had time to make changes, except to lower the curtain under the toolbar.

activity_main.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> <android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:theme="@style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay"> <android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar android:id="@+id/toolbar" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize" android:background="?attr/colorPrimary" app:popupTheme="@style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay"/> </android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout> <android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout android:id="@+id/drawer_layout" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:fitsSystemWindows="true" tools:openDrawer="start"> <include layout="@layout/app_bar_main" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent"/> <android.support.design.widget.NavigationView android:id="@+id/nav_view" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:layout_gravity="start" android:fitsSystemWindows="true" app:headerLayout="@layout/nav_header_main" app:menu="@menu/activity_main_drawer"/> </android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout> </LinearLayout>

What is it and how to deal with it?

  • And what do you want to achieve? Why did you change the markup? - Yuriy SPb
  • We want the toolbar not to close when the curtain comes out - Newbie
  • In general, all this used to work this way, but then Google decided that it was necessary to close the toolbar. So you have to run out. Try, for a start, to put some negative margin for NavigationView, returning the markup to its original form - Yuriy Spb

Yes, it is very similar to the status bar. Most likely Google insight is some kind of hellish hack so that the left menu looks the same on different versions. So yes - it is better to leave the standard behavior. Though, maybe, manipulations with translusentStatusBar attribute in styles will help. But it's better not to go there - everything is bad with backward compatibility - YuriySPb
