After creating the first project, the sizes of elements in the designer ceased to change. Creating a new project and completely resetting Android Studio settings did not help. You can only move the elements on the Activity with the mouse, and you cannot resize them, although at the very beginning everything worked. Maybe I’m doing something wrong and I need to enable this feature in Android Studio itself? On the attached screenshot you can see that I increase the size with the mouse, when I release the size, the size does not change, it remains the same.

Never use a designer, he is bazheny and not working. It is needed solely for the external presentation (picture) and a set of widgets (when you manually write to XML, you will soon need to be taken from the designer).
I develop without it, only in the tab with XML, you can live.
- Well, not working is an exaggeration. It works, although not without nuances. I do in the designer, but I expose the attributes through the "properties" tab. Reasonable compromise - and immediately see the result and print less and "glitches" at least. - pavlofff

Setting the right size in your XML layout is the only normal way out.
