Hello. Began to study the database. Please tell me what I need to have installed? Installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, Management Studio. Is that enough to create a database? And if you need to create queries, then where to write them, in the default SQLCMD.EXE? In general, what is the best way to create a database (console or studio) and where to write requests (console)? It is supposedly necessary to work within six months exclusively for educational purposes. And do I need a php admin and what is it?

You have installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition - and this is for working with MS SQL, and not MySQL. To work with MySQL you need to install MySQL Server (you can from here )

Then you can work with the database simply from the console, but it will be more convenient to install some kind of graphical interface, for example, SQLyog, or you can install phpMyAdmin - but this is not necessary, just for ease of use.

@MuscledBoy And why do you need MySQL if you already have MS SQL, it has more options - Mike

@MuscledBoy, best of all latest, compatible with your operating system - Ksenia

@MuscledBoy, and what do you mean by the word "studio"?) Well, it's just possible to create a database via the console) - Ksenia

@MuscledBoy And yes, of course, the database should be determined seriously. If you have unpretentious queries, they will usually be able to work on any DBMS. But if something more serious, then you will not be able to transfer ready-made queries to another DBMS just because the SQL dialects of the databases are different. Consequently, after writing a project, it will be extremely difficult to change the DBMS in case anything happens - Mike

tl; dr: if you needed MySQL, then you didn’t install what you wanted. But if you are still undecided, it makes sense to try MSSQL (but be prepared to face its commercial model). - D-side
