There are icons that I want to add to the studio (sizes xhdpi, xxhdpi, xxxhdpi). Found some source in which you can convert images. The question is in general the following: does AS need to do this now or does it automatically transform them somehow?

Click on the res folder with the right button, select New-> Image asset, then specify the image. Further you will understand
