The query SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM users produces string fields Collation: latin1_swedish_ci . When I select a column with names, Russian names are displayed in this form:

What can be done to display correctly in the console?

I tried:

  • change client encoding ( SET NAMES "UTF-8" )
  • change the encoding of the table to utf-8

The problem was solved by switching to Latin1 encoding on the client.
