Guys, tell me in which direction to go, to allow the site administrator to add pictures to the menu items when forming the menu?
Options with plugins are of little interest.

There are lots of great plugins. For example, one of them - Menu Icons ( https://ru.wordpress.org/plugins/menu-icons/screenshots/ ).
You can also manually, on a specific menu item, for example: class="cat-item cat-item-248" in the .ccs file for this class set the background-image with the left positioning
- Yes, the plug-ins are understandable, but I’ll learn more about how to do it, than use ready-made .... although, as an option, disassemble a couple of plug-ins ...... - pepel_xD
- Completed the answer. - Valery Emelyanov
- You didn’t understand me a bit, of course you can set the necessary rules in css ..... But I’m interested in adding settings fields directly to the admin panel, so that when creating the menu, the admin could choose a picture to be displayed. - pepel_xD
