When converting this string 130,8000 using Double.parseDouble , this error occurred. What needs to be fixed?

Code

 double temp = (Double.parseDouble(ud.getText().toString()) * Double.parseDouble(prv.getText().toString()));

  • Did you try to replace the comma with a dot? - Andrey M
  • No, I have not tried. Thanks It works! - Mr Klonwar

In Java, fractional numbers are written through a dot. If you use a comma, then you need to either replace it with a period.

 String str = "130,8000".replace(',', '.'); double temp = Double.parseDouble(str);

either parse based on a specific locale

 NumberFormat format = NumberFormat.getInstance(Locale.FRANCE); Number number = format.parse("130,8000"); double d = number.doubleValue();

    In Java, fractional numbers are stored in their internal format, and when displayed, in the most common Western formats (EN-US, etc.), a period is used as a separator for the floating part. This is to "In Java, fractional numbers are written through a dot," which is not entirely correct. The answer to the question is correct. - lospejos

I believe that the problem is a comma. You must use the appropriate formatting:

 NumberFormat format = NumberFormat.getInstance(Locale.FRANCE); Number number = format.parse(prv.getText().toString()); double d = number.doubleValue();
