myImage is centered, the width and height of the image are fixed. myImage.backgroundColor = .clear . On the iPhone version, everything is fine, the picture is there, and the background color is self.view.backgroundColor , and on the iPad version there is a picture but the background is filled with white. What's wrong ?

It was another Xcode or simulator bug, everything went well on a real iPad.
