When is it resorted to?

I understand correctly that this is a tool for creating dynamic query generation, where the goal is the classes that reflect the data?

It is simply outdated api, which now does not make sense to use.

In contrast to the usual api, EF allows you to query custom data without creating instances of any specific classes, i.e. poorly typed.
