Tell me what archive is being downloaded on the main nodejs page? How to install it, the source script should have a configure script, or a deb package should be, and what should I do with this zip archive?

This archive must be collected. On the NodeJS website you can download the version you are interested in that has already been compiled for your OS. Or use the package manager , as you suggested in the comments.

Checked the versions available on the tips above. Updates 5-month. I came to the conclusion that it is better to download the archive of the required version and collect it yourself. For Debian, having previously installed the checkinstall package, this can be done as follows:

    • unpack the archive and rename the directory, removing the letter v from the version
    • go inside the directory and execute ./configure
    • for multi-core PCs # make -jN && checkinstall -D -y, where N is the number of cores.

If you build it from a non-root level, the assembled deb package will lie inside the directory and you will need to install it manually.
