Problem. There is a product category WooCommerce, it looks like this

сайт/категории/столы-и-стулья/столы/ДЕРЕВЯННЫЕ-СТОЛЫ

everything is OK, BUT this category is also available under other addresses, namely:

 сайт/категории/столы-и-стулья/ДЕРЕВЯННЫЕ-СТОЛЫ сайт/категории/ДЕРЕВЯННЫЕ-СТОЛЫ

It turns out that this is a duplicate of this page. How to get rid of this, so that this village was accessible only by one url?

The easiest way to create canonical URLs in WooCommerce is to use the Yoast SEO plugin.

On the category settings page you need to specify the canonical url

enter image description here

On the picture it is http://millersoils.ru/product-category/automotive/motorsport/gearbox-oil/

Now when addressing addresses

http://millersoils.ru/product-category/automotive/motorsport/gearbox-oil/

http://millersoils.ru/product-category/motorsport/gearbox-oil/

http://millersoils.ru/product-category/gearbox-oil/

The page code will generate the same tag with the canonical address <link rel="canonical" href="http://millersoils.ru/product-category/automotive/motorsport/gearbox-oil/" />

Canonical URLs will help get rid of duplicates in the PS.

    Definition from wiki

URL normalization (or URL canonization) is the process by which a URL is rendered uniform. The goal of the normalization process is to transform the URL into a normalized or canonical form in order to determine the equivalence of two syntactically different URLs. one

Search engines use URL normalization to reduce indexing of duplicate pages and rank pages in order of importance. Search robots perform URL normalization in order to avoid rescanning the resource. Browsers can perform normalization to determine if a visit has been made or if there is a page in the cache.

And in order to avoid them initially, you need to create the structure and configure the CNC correctly.

    • @Denis Do you suggest copying google manual? :) - SeVlad
    • No, highlight the main points from the article and refer to the article as a source. Because if Google changes the path to the page, the link will become invalid, and the answer will lose value. - Denis
    • @Denis; There it’s impossible to single out the "main" - this is a manual. Rather, the main thing I singled out is the keyword "Canonical URLs." A link - on how to do them correctly. And this is in each case differently. Even if Google changes the path and suddenly it doesn’t make a redirection (which isn’t realistic at all, as long as this mechanism invented by Google works, but ok, suppose) you can always use this key. You think that by deleting the answer you will make a better TSU and other SO participants - delete. - SeVlad
    • @Denis, yes. But imagine the answer without a link - will it be more useful? Or will it be useless? :) - SeVlad
    • In general, I like your answer, because you tell me how to do it right. (And how to do it is a minor question.) From Google’s manual: В этой статье описано, как использовать канонические URL . But there is no definition and the essence and meaning of the canonical urls are not described. Write more about it, the answer will be even better. - Nick Volynkin
