There is a VPS with 1 core and 1GB of memory on Xen . It uses Apache Tomcat and PostgreSQL . Somewhere around 0.5GB of memory remains free. How reasonable is there to put ElasticSearch for full-text search?

Will there be enough server resources or do you need a dedicated server for such things?

    If you want to use ElasticSearch only for full-text search, then it is ElasticSearch to use Sphinx . It is light and will cover all your needs at the initial stage. ES is a rather heavy product, but it has much more possibilities.
