Good day everyone!

In IntelliJ IDEA 2017.2.3, I suddenly lost the inscription Git from the bottom right, leaving only the icon of two triangles:

enter image description here

I also tried to commit the changes, but after clicking the "Commit ..." button, nothing happened. There is a connection with Git and GitHub, tested in the settings. In "VCS -> Git", the buttons from "Branches ..." to "Reset HEAD ..." do not work, just zero reaction. I tried to create a new project; after sending a commit, it says that there are no changes in the project.

Tell me what could be the problem?

UPDATE: I discovered another incomprehensible point:

In Local Changes in any of my projects the inscription "updating ..." is now lit, that he does not understand the update.

  • Is there a .git in the project folder? - Kamil Magomedov
  • Yes, such a folder is present - Roman Makeev September
  • Show the output of ls -l .git/* (or similar if it is Windows). - 0andriy

Go to the menu VCS -> Enable Version Control Integration

Select Git and click OK. The existing .git folder should be picked up, or a new one will be created if it is not there.

Demonstration of Enable Version Control Integration window

  • If that doesn't work either, you can upgrade or reinstall the Git integration plugin. Plugins sometimes break when the IDE itself is updated, which can lead to a similar result. - Nick Volynkin
  • I cannot enter Enable Version Control Integration, this section is lit in dark gray. The plug-in also does not work, it does not have the "Uninstall" item in it. I also found another problem, see the “UPDATE” item in the question. - Roman Makeev
  • And in the settings menu, the version control is available? - Komdosh
  • Yes, the Version Control section is available - Roman Makeev
  • is your git repository there? - Komdosh September

This problem was solved very simply - by reinstalling Ideas. Now Git in Idea works correctly.
