The user on the computer has a working windows desktop application and there is a site open in the browser. How to send a command from the site (browser) to this application?

Ps. This is necessary for the following scenario: When registering through the application, the user must confirm the mail, in order to simplify, immediately after registration, I open a window where I need to enter the code from the mail. The letter also has the opportunity to simply follow the link and thus also confirm the mail. At this point, I would like to close the extra window in the application in order to make it clear to the user that you can now enter your login and password, and not the code.

  • The browser sends a message to the server side of the site. Then the site (server) should communicate with the desktop application. How this communication can be organized depends on the programming language. What is your server language? I also want to add that this is a very rare work scenario. Perhaps you need to revise what you really need. Maybe in the question, describe the task itself? - Dmitry Polyanin

Everything can be done much easier. So, as Steam or Skype does - when installing, the program must register in the system a protocol by which the browser can access it ( skype://makecoffee ). How exactly this is done, I, alas, do not know. Google it. - Beast Winterwolf

  • @DmitryPolyanin, yes, I could do this method, but this is really a rare method, I was more interested in the method described in the comments below - Ivan K
  • @BeastWinterwolf How do you think the way described by your link will work for chrome? - Ivan K
