Hello. There is a need to work with different versions of ms sql server (2012,2017) on one PC.
Will they be compatible with each other?
And will it work with an instance of ms sql server 2012 in ms sql server management 2017?

Yes, SSMS is a standalone product, with its help you can connect to any younger version of SQL Server, but Microsoft warns that there may be features that are not supported or not fully supported in the new SSMS for older products like 2000 or 2005 servers.

- I would not be sure that SSMS2012 will be able to connect to SQL Server 2017 using full functionality. In the opposite direction without problems. At least 2008 studio did not work with 12m server. - teran
