Hello everyone, theoretically having access to all files on the server (read only), can I get the password from any user?
1 answer
Passwords in * nix systems are usually in / etc / shadow (they used to be in / etc / passwd). only there are password hashes, they cannot be easily decrypted. The only way to get a password is to encrypt all possible strings and verify the resulting hash. so if the password is easy, you will of course quickly pick it up, but if it is longer than 8 characters it may take years (millennia) to pick up

- @Cus Has, a couple of bitcoin farms reconfigure for selection, maybe you can take it if it is not very long. - Mike

- @Cus My system uses for example SHA-512. With bitcoin based on SHA-256, a much weaker version. if you figure out how to uniquely choose SHA-256, then all the bitcoins of the world will be yours. On the other hand, of course, password encryption is much faster, because a short block is encrypted. so it's hard to say exaggeration or not. - Mike
