Hello.
Does anyone know how to tear out a place from one disk in Windows Server 2008 and place it in another WITHOUT LOSS OF DATA . Those. the disk "C" is sorely lacking in space, you need to add it from another disk (for example, E ) without losing data.
Partition Magic says that in server Windows it does not want to work.
I would be very grateful for the help.

It is necessary to use third-party software such as Acronis, Paragon or PartitionMagic to manage partitions.

Partition Magic says that in server Windows it does not want to work.

    1. Download server version of PM.
    2. Transform server Windu into desktop (for example, using TweakNT), but it is more dangerous than using partition managers.

And the existing directory as a link to another disk does not work.

Indeed, you can use the reparse point. To do this, transfer your catalog to another section. Remains on drive C: empty directory C: blablablablablabla, and now you can mount the partition where you have files Plus you can use such a wonderful thing as symlink (although in Windows they work crookedly), if you are not satisfied with the position of the data on the disk, but I don't want to move them around the directory structure.

Download Acronis or Partich liveCD and boot from it, in this case it will be all the same what Windows is worth.

You can mount the partition as a directory ( here is an example ), and not using third-party software.

Everything should work like this: There is a C drive (20GB) and E (40GB). If we mount disk E at C: \\ data \. Then by filling in the C drive with 20 GB, you can put another 40 GB in the data folder, since the files will be physically on E. - Jakeroid
      • But no, it does not. I just need to expand the space for the ever-increasing database, and for the program files as well. And the existing directory as a link to another disk does not work. Anyway, thanks for the reply) I will try Acronis liveCD or partishna ... - Anton Mukhin
      • And who bothers you in this case to copy files to a new disk, and to the folder where these files were to mount a new disk? Naturally, as elsewhere, a server reboot is required, otherwise, unfortunately, in no way. And who keeps the base files on the disk with the OSes? It's you in vain! - Dex

After changing the partition structure, you still need to reboot

      • Well, in general, it is doubtful that Windows will allow to re-cut the disk with its own system partition into sections - tutankhamun

You can mount the disk as a folder, but this is a temporary solution. Zapakapte disk or important data from it somewhere, and then redistribute. If you are talking about two HDDs, mark up the second disk as you need and copy the data into the appropriate sections with an acronym or guest.
