I hope you can help me solve my problem.

VPS Features:

  • 4 vCore
  • 6 gb ram
  • 6 gb swap
  • Centos 7 64x

The problem is that after installing various GUI and reboot, I cannot connect to the machine via ssh. However, you can open an additional ssh session that is provided on the vps control panel, but it is limited in time and is not a solution, but makes sure that the machine continues to work even after installing gui. Support suggested that they are not engaged in consulting on software.

Quote "Well, that's the fun software installs - we don't support debugging such."

I will describe in stages my steps.

ps All actions take place on a clean system.

  1. yum -y install epel-release

  2. yum -y update

  3. yum install -y xorg-x11-xauth xorg-x11-utils xorg-x11-fonts- * xorg-x11-apps xorg-x11-server-Xorg

  4. Then the usual actions for x11 forwading and checking accordingly, everything works.

  5. yum -y groupinstall "X Window system"

  6. yum -y groupinstall xfce

  7. systemctl set-default graphical.target

  8. init 6

And that's all, after the reboot, I can't touch the car. I hope for your help gentlemen

  • if there is an opportunity to repeat what has been passed before restarting the server, break through the status of sshd . And it seems to me that CentOS-7 is already with systemd Check that it requires sshd.service to start, the condition may not be met or it is expected to start another service. Also check if iptables blocking chains are added - Hellseher 10:39 pm
  • Iptables and Firewall are disabled at the time of the experiments with installing the GUI. Did as you suggested. And filled the status of sshd.service in various stages. You can see it here: pastebin.com/eyPFkdh3 - paxomka
  • UPD Now I tried to do everything except reboot and immediately connect with VNC, everything works. However, if you reboot, then again there is no opportunity to go. - paxomka
  • See what sshd.service requires for you to run /usr/lib/systemd/system/sshd.service and another option that after the GUI the system does not load at all and does not get to sshd - Hellseher
  • the fact of the matter is that it works, if I come from the backup console that the host provides for debugging, and from the console it is clear that ssh continues to work after that, I demonstrated it on pastebin (last item after reboot) - paxomka
